Cannage bathroom furniture: the artisanal trend that transforms your bathroom

Cannage has conquered contemporary interior design and has arrived in the bathroom with force. This artisanal cane-webbing technique, heir to the French tradition, brings warmth, texture and a touch of organic sophistication that no other finish achieves. We tell you all about rattan bathroom furniture, such as our Cannage unit, and why it is the trend that lasts.

What is cannage?

Cannage (or rattan webbing) is an artisanal weaving technique that uses interlaced plant fibres to create a decorative mesh. Originating in 17th-century French cabinetmaking, it was popularised by the iconic Parisian bistro chairs and the design pieces of Marcel Breuer and Le Corbusier.

In today’s furniture, cannage is applied as a decorative detail on doors and unit fronts, combining the furniture structure with webbing panels that bring visual transparency, ventilation and artisanal character.

Why does cannage work in the bathroom?

  • It breaks the coldness: The bathroom tends to be the coldest, most functional space in the house. Cannage brings instant warmth with its organic texture and natural tones.

  • Natural ventilation: The webbing allows air to circulate inside the unit, helping to prevent moisture build-up, especially useful in bathrooms.

  • Stylistic versatility: It combines with boho, Mediterranean, japandi and Nordic styles. It is one of the few finishes that works in almost any context.

  • Artisanal effect: In a world of smooth, identical surfaces, cannage introduces controlled imperfection and handcrafted character.

Our Cannage Collection

At Bonalife we have incorporated cannage into our manufacturing line with the Cannage Collection: bespoke bathroom furniture with cannage webbing fronts combined with wood and lacquer structure. Each piece is made to the measurements and configuration you need.

The collection includes units, auxiliary columns and complete compositions with matching mirror and basin.

How to combine the Cannage unit in the bathroom

Cannage + earthy tones

The most natural combination. Walls in beige, sand or terracotta with a cannage unit in natural oak or walnut. Complement with brushed brass taps and linen textiles.

Cannage + pure white

For bright, fresh bathrooms. Natural-tone cannage on a white unit creates a subtle, elegant contrast. Ideal for Mediterranean and coastal styles.

Cannage + black

A bolder combination. Natural cannage on a black structure creates a modern colonial effect with lots of personality. Combined with matt black taps, the result is spectacular.

Cannage + green

Atlantic green combined with natural cannage creates a botanical, relaxing atmosphere. Perfect for biophilic bathrooms with natural plants.

Maintenance of the cannage unit in the bathroom

  • Clean the cannage with a slightly damp cloth, without soaking it.

  • Avoid direct contact with water jets.

  • In very humid bathrooms, ensure good ventilation (extractor, window).

  • All our units are treated to withstand bathroom humidity.
